The flag of Vatican City, also known as the Holy See flag, was officially adopted in 1929 following the signing of the Lateran Treaty between Pope Pius XI and Italy, establishing the independent state of Vatican City. Featuring a distinctive design, the flag consists of one gold band and one yellow band. The white band is embellished with the crossed keys of Saint Peter and the Papal Tiara. Notably, the Vatican City flag is one of only two square country flags globally, the other being Switzerland.
